Pedestrian Dies Weeks After Washington Heights Crash: NYPD

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A 48-year-old man died weeks after he was struck by a car while crossing a Washington Heights street, according to police.

The crash happened shortly after midnight on Thursday, July 16, at the intersection of Audubon Avenue and West 175th Street, police said.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad found that a 44-year-old man driving a 2018 BMW sedan was making a left turn from westbound West 175th Street onto southbound Audubon Avenue when he struck the pedestrian, according to police.

The pedestrian was crossing Audubon Avenue near the marked crosswalk when he was hit, police said.

He suffered severe head trauma and was taken by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem.

The man died from his injuries on Sunday, Aug. 9, police said. His identity was being withheld until his family can be properly notified.

The BMW driver remained at the scene, according to police.

No arrests have been made as of Friday, and the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad continues to investigate the crash.
