Join Chemo Comfort for our twelfth annual weeklong Coffee and Confections for Comfort charity event beginning June 7 across metro NY/NJ!
Chemo Comfort and participating bakeries and coffee shops will be celebrating the sweet victory of cancer survivorship for one week, beginning National Cancer Survivor Day, Sunday June 7.
Bakeries and coffee shops are participating in the newly expanded “<a href="https://chemocomfort.org/2026-cc/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Coffee &amp; Confections for Comfort</a>” with sweet treats which will be on sale in their shops June 7–14, 2026. Establishments in New York City; Westchester, Dutchess and Orange counties and New Jersey are participating in this twelfth annual event by creating signature confections for their patrons. Proceeds from these items will be donated to Chemo Comfort to support our programs.
Chemo Comfort, an all-volunteer-run organization, provides cancer patients with kits of products to help manage chemotherapy’s side effects.

Blackmer will examine the methods, uses, and impact of state repression using the Municipal Archives’ <a href="https://a860-collectionguides.nyc.gov/agents/corporate_entities/807" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">NYPD Bureau of Special Services &amp; Investigation (BOSSI) Collection</a>. The author of <a href="https://www.upress.virginia.edu/title/10145/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Unleashing Black Power: Grassroots Organizing in Harlem and the Advent of the Long, Hot Summers</a>, Dr. Blackmer, will also explore how archival records can help us understand, analyze, and write more complete and compelling histories of the Black Freedom Movement in New York and beyond.
<a href="https://www.upress.virginia.edu/title/10145/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Unleashing Black Power</a> explores the local dynamics, national connections, and global context of the Black freedom movement in Harlem from 1954 to 1964, illuminating how activists, organizers, and ordinary people mounted their resistance to systemic racism in the Jim Crow North. Peter Blackmer argues that this decade of confrontations between Black communities and white state power caused Harlem residents and activists to seek “new means” for achieving freedom within a city, state, and nation determined to deny them access. Tracing the dual evolution of Black radicalism and white resistance, Unleashing Black Power offers a new framework for analyzing the epochal urban uprisings in the 1960s.

The historic section features items from the American Revolution through Hollywood's golden age, including John Hancock's shipping documents, Congressional journals, and Founding Fathers' autographs. It also showcases Gold Rush correspondence, a Quaker anti-slavery archive, Civil War soldier letters, and WWI posters. 
 
Entertainment memorabilia includes a collection of items, ephemera and photographs that once belonged to screen legend Lauren Bacall.

Tutu School exists to make space in the lives of children, 6 months to 8 years old, for creativity and joy. We do one thing – provide very young students with a magical introduction to ballet – and we focus all of our energy on doing that one thing in the highest quality manner possible. This means that every aspect of your child’s experience at Tutu School- from the sparkling spaces to the smiling faces – has been specifically tailored to the needs of even the tiniest dancers. Our carefully crafted curriculum was designed by dance professionals and developmental specialists to ensure that precisely the right amount of ballet technique is being introduced to students at exactly the right time, and not any earlier than their little bodies and young imaginations are ready for it. Importantly, our Tutu teachers receive thoughtful training in our curriculum and in the best ways to support young dancers, whatever their age, developmental stage, or level of experience. We believe in introducing students to ballet in a way that makes sense for their bodies and their development, but that also nurtures their creativity and love of music and movement. We want to cultivate an appreciation of the arts and to provide students with a solid technical foundation to study ballet more seriously later on (if they choose), but more importantly, to give them the kind of formative early enrichment experience that will serve them well in whatever dreams they follow later on.
