EAST QUOGUE, NY — It's wonderful news for scores of patrons waiting to flock back to a beloved Dune Road destination: Dockers Waterside has reopened after a devastating May fire.

According to Larry Hoffman, owner of Dockers Waterside in East Quogue, the restaurant reopened just 29 days after the May 20 fire, which took place right before the Memorial Day weekend.

"On the late afternoon of May 20, Dockers Waterside faced one of the greatest challenges in its history when a fire caused damage to a portion of the restaurant, primarily impacting the roof structure over the kitchen area," he said. "While the damage was substantial and smoke/soot filled interior spaces, there was also much to be grateful for. No one was injured."

Most, if not all, of Dockers’ outdoor spaces were spared and required little more than a thorough cleaning and power washing, he said.

"What followed was an extraordinary display of determination, teamwork, and community spirit," Hoffman said.

Over the next 29 days, restoration crews worked tirelessly alongside contractors, electricians, plumbers, painters, and countless other skilled professionals to bring Dockers back to life, Hoffman said.

"Their efforts, combined with the unwavering dedication of Dockers employees and members of the community, made what many believed impossible a reality," he said. "There was no job too small and no task too large. Everyone simply put their heads down and went to work."

Against the odds — "and despite the skepticism of some" — Hoffman said Dockers Waterside proudly reopened in record time.

“I am no miracle worker,” said owner Larry Hoffman. “I simply had the privilege of coordinating the true heroes of this story. The remarkable men and women who showed up every day, often before sunrise and long after sunset, are the reason we’re back. Their dedication, hard work, and belief in Dockers never wavered.”

Hoffman said Dockers extended its heartfelt gratitude to every employee, contractor, first responder, volunteer, neighbor, guest, and friend who offered support, encouragement, and assistance throughout the recovery process.

"The fire tested us, but it also reminded us of something powerful: when a community comes together with purpose and determination, remarkable things can happen," he said. "Dockers Waterside is proud to once again welcome guests and looks forward to a safe, successful, and memorable season ahead."
