Man Charged With Boating While Intoxicated In Hamptons: Police

He nearly hit several other vessels Saturday, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Selden man was arrested in Hampton Bays Saturday after boating while intoxicated, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the arrest took place at about 8:09 p.m.

Previously, at about 7:32 p.m., the Southampton Town marine patrol received a report of a man who was operating a 23-ft. Grady White erratically, nearly hitting several other vessels in the Shinnecock Inlet, police said.

The Southampton Town marine patrol located the vessel, which was being operated by Michael Pruessen, 42. Pruessen, along with his vessel, were escorted back to the Coast Guard station, where he was further interviewed by the Southampton Town Police Department's marine patrol and community response unit, police said.

He was found to have been operating a vessel in an intoxicated condition; Pruessen was arrested and transported to Southampton Town Police Department headquarters for arrest processing, police said.

He was held to appear in Southampton Town Justice Court for morning arraignment, police said.

Pruessen was charged with operating a vessel while in an intoxicated condition, a navigation law misdemeanor, police said.
