Former Cop Stabbed His Victim With Screwdriver 15 Times In Head, Neck, Body
The 52-year-old, who was a former Yonkers police officer, also attacked a trooper, later honored as a hero, who responded to the scene.
SOMERS, NY — A Somers man learned his fate after carrying out an especially brutal domestic violence attack before violently turning on a trooper who arrived just in time.
Westchester County District Attorney Susan Cacace announced that 52-year-old Heriberto Andujar, also known as Eric Andujar, of Somers, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision, in connection to a domestic violence assault which took place in December of 2024.
Andujar pleaded guilty in January to felony first-degree assault.

On December 5, 2024, New York State Police responded to a Somers home after receiving a report about a possible domestic violence stabbing.
Once at the scene, a trooper heard screams coming from inside and made his way into the home. He was then confronted by Andujar, who was armed with a blood-covered screwdriver. Andujar then attacked the trooper and tried to stab him several times.

The trooper and several backup officers were able to eventually subdue Andujar.
State police later found that Andujar had stabbed the victim with the screwdriver around 15 times, in the head, neck and body.
"The actions of Mr. Andujar were nothing short of cowardly and despicable. However, the real story behind this shocking incident is ultimately one of strength and bravery," Cacace said. "The victim in this case showed true courage in standing up to Andujar and ending the violent cycle of domestic abuse. We also saw extreme bravery in the actions of State Trooper David Meireles who after hearing the screams of the victim, and unable to wait for backup officers, forced his way into the home and prevented Andujar from killing his victim."
Trooper David Meireles was honored by Westchester County and the New York State Police for his "heroic, life-saving actions" during National Police Week in May 2025.
"Today I am in this courtroom not only as your victim, but as a survivor from your brutal attack," the victim said in her impact statement. "Justice must ensure that you can never hurt us or anyone else again. You will live with the consequences of your actions."
The DA noted that Andujar is a former police officer with the City of Yonkers Police Department, serving from August 2001 to February 2004, when he resigned in lieu of termination due to an unrelated domestic violence arrest in 2004. He pleaded guilty to second-degree harassment in that incident.
The investigation was handled by the New York State Police, while the case was prosecuted by Domestic Violence Bureau Chief Joyce Miller and ADA Daniel Pisahov.
