Manager Linked To Burglary, Embezzlement Scheme At Somers National Golf Club: Police

SOMERS, NY — A manager at an exclusive Westchester County country club has been charged with using his position to steal tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and money, according to police.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation announced the arrest of 37-year-old David Chung, of Somers, for felony burglary, felony criminal mischief, and felony grand larceny in connection to an investigation into incidents involving fraud, burglary, and embezzlement at the golf club.

State police said the investigation began after they learned that on July 25, Chung obtained a combined $4,800 from two victims after claiming the money was needed to repair damage they had caused at the Somers National Golf Club on West Hill Drive, in Somers, before an event scheduled for the following day.

On July 26, state police were called to the Somers National Golf Club for a reported larceny after about $12,000 in business proceeds was found to be missing. Investigators identified Chung, who was employed as a restaurant manager at the golf club.

Four days later, while the investigation remained ongoing, state police returned to the Somers National Golf Club for a reported burglary. Investigators say Chung forcibly entered the clubhouse during the early morning hours and stole more than $2,600 in checks and cash, as well as golf bags containing clubs and other equipment valued at approximately $9,500.

On Friday, Chung was arrested. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Somers Court on Monday.
