Blackbrook Audubon is offering a new scholarship to assist the next generation of conservation professionals. The Blackbrook Audubon Society Education Scholarship is a $1,000 gift awarded to a graduating high school senior or current college student who wishes to pursue a degree in Environmental Studies, Ornithology, Forestry, Wildlife Biology, Sustainable Agriculture, or related fields. Such studies should align with Blackbrook’s mission statement to "promote conservation and restoration of ecosystems with emphasis on birds and habitat through education and advocacy within Ohio’s Ashtabula, Lake and Geauga counties.”
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants seeking an associate or bachelor’s degree must also be a permanent resident of Ashtabula, Geauga or Lake County, submit documentation of college enrollment, have a transcript with a minimum 3.00 GPA, provide a record of community environmental activities and submit a statement of intent to complete the chosen degree program in an above-mentioned field of study.
A complete scholarship application with supporting documentation is due by May 1 and can be mailed directly to Blackbrook Audubon Society, P. O. Box 1306, Mentor, Ohio 44061-1306.

Blackbrook has shared application materials with local high school and college guidance offices. An application is also available at blackbrookaudubon.org.
Blackbrook will choose a recipient based on the quality of application responses, academic history, letters of recommendation, and evidence of interest in the chosen field through community involvement and activities. Examples of these could include Science Olympiad, Young Birders club, camps, scout projects with focus on wildlife or forest restoration, or other related activities.

The scholarship recipient will be notified by letter no later than June 30. Blackbrook will award $1,000 for tuition and fees only. A check will be issued to the recipient’s school directly in July or August for use in the fall semester of the same calendar year.
The winning student will be acknowledged at Blackbrook Audubon's September program. The Blackbrook Audubon Society Education Scholarship recipient shall be selected solely on the basis of merit without any consideration of race, ethnicity, sexual preference or religious affiliation.
