Abington-Jenkintown Connections Project Completed
The nearly decade-long project will be christened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 13.
ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — A pedestrian project that is over a decade in the making has been completed, with officials christening the project at a ceremony next week.
Township officials are inviting the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Abington Friends School.
The ceremony will celebrate the completion of Phases 1-4 of the Abington-Jenkintown Connections project.

The Abington-Jenkintown Connections project is a pedestrian and stormwater improvement project that seeks to improve connectivity and stormwater management along Washington Lane, Jenkintown Road, Greenwood Avenue, and Meetinghouse Road.
The Abington Township Board of Commissioners began the planning and application of grants related to the Abington-Jenkintown Connections project in August 2017.

The project is being completed in collaboration with Jenkintown Borough and will benefit all road users.
Key project goals include:
- Increased Sidewalk Connectivity
- Improved Transit Stop Accessibility
- Improved Pedestrian Safety
- Provide Stormwater Facilities
- Increase Intersection Safety and Operation along Greenwood Avenue, Meetinghouse Road, and Jenkintown Road
The project is being funded through multiple sources DCED Multi-modal Transportation Fund, DVRPC Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Funds, PennDOT Green Light Go, Montgomery County Transportation Program Grant, and Abington Township Public Works and Engineering.
