Jenkintown Arts Festival Canceled For 1st Time In 25 Years

JENKINTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The annual Jenkintown Festival, scheduled for Sunday, is being canceled due to the incoming Nor'easter.

Organizers made the announcement late Friday morning.

"We're sorry. We waited as long as we possibly could, but the weather just isn't going to be conducive to a street festival," organizers said.

The event was expected to include over 100 participants, food and drinks, and live music.

With potential and probable high winds from the Nor'easter, and with the rest of the forecast, "we can't put everyone through it."

Organizers said they were asked about a rain date.

"Unfortunately, it's not as simple as it sounds," organizers said. "Between the Borough and PennDOT, there are a lot of approvals involved in closing these streets, but we're going to take a hard look at it for next year."

Organizers said they've been holding the festival for 25 years, and this is the first time the event has ever been canceled.

"That says something about how much this town shows up, rain or shine — just not this kind of wind," organizers said. "To everyone who was ready to be there tomorrow: We're sorry, and we'll see you next year."
