School Zone Violations Lead To Citations In Cheltenham

CHELTENHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — While some police officers were welcoming students back to school on Monday, others were cracking down on drivers in school zones.

Police were out monitoring school zones and high-traffic areas and handing out some detention to drivers who weren't following the rules.

During Monday's morning commute, police made several traffic stops for violations and issued numerous citations.

One driver was also found talking on her cell phone while driving, earning some additional detention time, police said.

Cheltenham Police will enforce school zones and school bus violations township-wide throughout the entire school year.

Meanwhile, school bus-mounted cameras are capturing violations when a driver passes a school bus that has activated its red lights and deployed its stop sign.

"These are critical violations," police said. "When a student is getting on or off a school bus, they are counting on every driver to stop while they are in or near the roadway. Please slow down, pay attention, and give school buses — and our students — the space and time they need."
