SPS Technologies Settles Lawsuit Over Massive Fire

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — SPS Technologies has settled a lawsuit with businesses and residents over the massive fire that destroyed its building and disrupted the community.

The class action lawsuit settlement will allow businesses that can document losses from the fire to be reimbursed up to $5,000.

Meanwhile, homeowners who can document wage or property losses will be reimbursed up to $500, according to the settlement.

Claims must be filed by Dec. 3.

The February 2025 fire gutted the 600,000-square-foot building on Highland Avenue and was fought by nearly 70 fire companies in the Philadelphia region for several days.

The fire prompted temporary shelter-in-place and voluntary evacuation orders, burned for several days, and damaged over 80 percent of the building.

Following the fire, SPS Technologies laid off 250 employees and demolished the facility in May 2025.

SPS Technologies is building a smaller, state-of-the-art aerospace fasterners facility at its location on Highland Avenue.

SPS Technologies, LLC, and its parent company, Precision Castparts Corp., settled the lawsuit from residents and businesses that were impacted, injured, or damaged by the fire. SPS and PCC deny any wrongdoing.

The settlement still needs to be approved by the court.

If approved, SPS Technologies will establish a $5 million fund to distribute cash payments to unreimbursed business losses, documented hourly employee lost wages, documented, unreimbursed property damage losses, and pro rata residual cash payments.

The fund will also be used to pay court-approved attorneys' fees and costs, service awards, and settlement administration costs.
