Willow Grove Park Mall Fire Forces Evacuation

Abington Township Police responded to a fire in a second-level bathroom on Saturday night, causing part of the mall to be evacuated.

ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The Willow Grove Park Mall was evacuated for the second time this year due to a fire, authorities said.

The Abington Township Police Department responded at 5 p.m. on Saturday to the report of a fire.

Police said a small fire happened inside the Macy's second-level bathroom.

The fire was quickly extinguished, and a small section of the mall was evacuated out of precaution, police said.

The evacuation was the second one this year at the mall, which is located off Welsh Road just over the Willow Grove Borough border.

In mid-January, the mall was evacuated for several hours due to smoke conditions in the building from an outside fire.

The cause of that fire was due to a fire in a trash compactor, police said.
