PHILADELPHIA, PA — Most visitors to the neonsoaked, Pabst-themed, retro-decor environs of Bob and Barbara's Lounge would not doubt its ranking as among the best dive bars in the city, if not the region at large.
A new list from the national food site The Takeout backs that up, placing Bob and Barbara's as Pennsylvania's best dive. It's part of roundup of the best dive bars in each state.
Here's what the Takeout has to say about the Lounge:

"The Special" at this PBR-themed joint is a PBR with a shot of Jim Beam Bourbon on the side for $5 (cash only). If that's not enough to lure you in, the Thursday night drag show or live music, some of which is played on a classic, Hammond B3 organ, might. Customers love the cheap drinks. The Scoundrel's Field Guide rated this Philly dive 10/10."
The criteria was vague ("questionable or quirky decor, friendly regulars, strong and cheap drinks") but it probably has to be. No honorable mentions were listed on The Takeout site, so it's not clear who the editors were putting up against Bob and Barbara's to make the final call. Other potential choices just within the city include Oscar's Tavern, Ray's Happy Birthday Bar, Dawson Street Pub, El Bar, Dirty Frank's, Cresson Inn, and The Happy Rooster
