Mother's Day Forecast In Philly Region: What To Expect

Stormy weather will be interspersed with sparkling sunshine and balmy temperatures over the coming days, forecasters said.

A rainy Mother's Day weekend is likely on tap for the greater Philadelphia region, according to forecasters, placing planned events and festivities in jeopardy.

Showers will move into the area early Saturday, with up to a quarter of an inch of rain likely throughout the day, forecasters said. Thunderstorms are also possible in the mid-afternoon.

Storms will continue until around 8 p.m. Saturday night, with higher rainfall totals possible in thunderstorms.

The forecast for Mother's Day itself on Sunday is a brighter intermission with sunny skies likely and a high of 79. It could be interrupted by

"However, a pocket of rain-free conditions in the coastal mid-Atlantic, the central Appalachians and New England may get squeezed from the south and west during the afternoon and evening by showers and thunderstorms," Accuweather said.

Even without that squeeze, storms will return by late Sunday night, with more precipitation likely into the early morning hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Relatively balmy temperatures will continue for the remainder of this week into next week, with highs ranging from the mid 60s to upper 70s and lows in the high 40s to low 50s.
