Nearby: Slack Family Recalls Precious Memories
Family says that the Bridgeville man was smart, compassionate and, at times, silly.

Jimmy Slackβs family members gathered in theirΒ Β home on Tuesday night a day after and told stories, wept, shared a few laughs and flipped through old photos of him.
βItβs just hard to sort through everything,β said Maureen Shields while looking at numerous photos of her brother. βWeβre going through pictures to make a picture board. Itβs just really hard to go through pictures of someoneβs entire life, and at 25, thatβs his entire life.β
Pittsburgh police found Slackβs body in the Ohio RiverΒ nearly two months after . The family spent each of those approximately 46 days that he was missing hoping for a miracle that he would come home.

βHeβs just precious to me.β
Shields remembered her brother for protecting her and their sister, Laura, while growing up. She remembers when Jimmy, who was the middle child between the two sisters, held Laura when she was just an infant.
βMy brother has kept me strong through everything,β Shields said. βHeβs been there for my three children. Heβs cheered me up when Iβve been sad. Heβs given me hope.β
She thanked the massive outpouring of support for the family given through social media and other communications. A steady stream of condolences began pouring in on theΒ Help Find Jimmy Slack Facebook pageΒ moments after the grim news was reported.
βTheyβve made this entire 46 days of wondering and hoping as bearable as it could be,β Shields said. βIf we would have been without that support, we wouldnβt have been able to get through this.β
She pointed toΒ the Jams for Jimmy benefit concertΒ in Pittsburgh's South Side area apparently organized by his friend to raise money for the family to increaseΒ . Shields said that she hopes that the Feb. 2 concert at Lava Lounge on East Carson Street will offer his friends a chance to share their stories of Jimmy Slack.
βIf people want to get together and celebrate my brotherβs life, who are we to stop them?β Shields said.
But for now, the Slack family is sharing its own memories.
βHe was something else,β Shields said.Β βHe was a character. Every second of his life was an adventure.β
Funeral arrangements are expected to be made on Wednesday.
