44 Pets Adopted At Women's Animal Center Event

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — Across the country last weekend, animal shelters participated in NBC Universal’s "Clear the Shelters" adoption event.

The hope was to find new homes for pets.

At the Women's Animal Center, that hope became a reality as 44 shelter animals found their forever homes.

Of those 44 pets that were adopted at the event last Saturday, 31 were cats, 10 were dogs, and also three guinea pigs found homes.

It was the 12th Annual NBC Universal nationwide "Clear the Shelters" event to find homes for surrendered and stray animals.

Due to $15,000 in financial support from Inspire Federal Credit Union, adoption fees for cats, dogs and small animals was free.

The Women's Animal Center is the oldest animal shelter in America.

The center was founded in 1869 by 30 Philadelphia women who transformed a municipal pound into the nation’s first dedicated shelter for rehoming animals.

It is a managed-admissions shelter for cats, dogs, and other small domestic companion animals, accepting animals from the Lower Bucks, Central Bucks, and Northeast Philadelphia regions regardless of age, breed, behavior, or health.

The center at 3839 Richlieu Road also operates a high-quality, affordable veterinary hospital serving about 14,000 pets annually, offering wellness exams, vaccinations, spaying/neutering, advanced laser surgery, and more.
