Dr. Meitz and Dr. Puglisi have created XactBHB®, the first and only non-invasive urine Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) test for people with Diabetes.
Detecting BHB (the predominant ketone) is imperative for understanding if you or your loved one is heading into Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA).
Current urine ketone strips test for acetoacetate, which tells only a portion of the story regarding DKA. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) advises against using the current urine acetoacetate ketone test strips. Blood BHB is the preferred standard, but high cost and the pain of additional finger pricks limit its use.
XactBHB® strips offer a non-invasive, lower cost in detecting BHB the predominant ketone) for DKA monitoring.
XactBHB®:
· FDA registered Class I medical device
· Extended shelf-life---up to 3 years with bottle cap sealed
· Available at www.xactbhbtest.com
XactBHB® offers TWO options for showing test results:
1. Dip strip in urine and then match color to bottle after 90 seconds
2. And/or download the XactBHB app (free in Apple store). After 90 seconds the app will automatically take a picture of the XactBHB® test strip to provide a numeric value of BHB mmol/L
Prominent Endocrinologist, Dr. Steven Edelman:
There is a definite unmet need for easy, accessible and affordable measurement of BHB by the end user…folks living with type 1 diabetes primarily to detect early impending DKA!
