Free Rita's Sweet Treat Sunday To Celebrate National Italian Ice Day

PHILADELPHIA — Patrons who have the app for Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard will get a free sweet treat on Saturday to celebrate National Italian Ice Day.

The Bensalem-based Rita’s — which opened there in 1984 — is planning the free promotion and another tied in to Cinco de Mayo on Tuesday.

On Sunday, participating Rita’s shops nationwide will offer guests a free small Italian Ice with the purchase of any treat through a single-use reward in the Rita’s app. The company said the offer expires by the end of the day.

The promotion applies to app users and is limited to one “Buy One Treat, Get One Free Small Ice” reward per account. (Kids size treats are excluded.)

Rita’s said the timing also highlights some of its classic Italian Ice flavors, including Cherry, Mango and Cotton Candy, which the company said are made fresh daily.

Two days later, on Tuesday, Rita’s plans to launch its limited-time “Make It Swicey” lineup featuring Tajín as a topping.

The company said guests will be able to customize their favorite Rita’s treats with the seasoning for what it described as a sweet, spicy and icy combination.

The new menu includes three items named in the announcement:

Mango Italian Ice topped with Tajín, a Watermelon Ice Blender blended with Tajín, and a Watermelon Gelati layered with Vanilla Custard and finished with Tajín. Rita’s said the lineup adds a sweet-and-spicy twist to some of its classic treats for a limited time.

New Rita's app members can get one free small Ice, Custard or Gelati for signing up. Rita’s said app users can earn rewards on purchases and receive birthday rewards and exclusive offers.

Rita’s said its signature Italian Ice is made fresh daily on-site and offered in a rotating selection of more than 80 flavors. Other menu items listed in the announcement include Frozen Custard, Gelati, Concretes, Frozen Coffee, Rita’s Blendini and milkshakes.

Rita’s said it has grown from its Bensalem start to more than 600 shops, calling itself the largest Italian Ice concept in the world.
