Man Convicted In Attempted Sexual Assault During Bensalem Home Invasion

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A 46-year-old Philadelphia man has been convicted in the home invasion burglary and attempted sexual assault of a woman inside a township apartment last October.

Louis Sophie, of Southampton Road, was convicted on Wednesday of several felony and misdemeanor counts following a waiver trial, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office said.

The charges include two counts of first-degree felony burglary and third-degree felony criminal trespassing, along with misdemeanor counts of simple assault, attempted indecent assault-without consent, and attempted indecent assault-forcible compulsion.

Bensalem Police responded at 2:48 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2025, to the Lafayette Gardens complex after receiving a 911 call reporting an attack.

Sophie entered the victim's apartment through an unlocked front door, grabbed her, and began removing his clothing while making suggestive remarks, police said.

The victim fought back against her attacker and screamed for help, forcing Sophie to flee the apartment. He then crossed the Poquessing Creek into Philadelphia on foot, authorities said.

Bensalem Police officers quickly flooded the surrounding area and stopped Sophie at a Sunoco gas station at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Knights Road in Philadelphia.

Officers identified Sophie, a registered sex offender, as the attacker matching the victim's description.

Sentencing will be deferred pending an evaluation by the Sexual Offender Assessment Board.
