Freight Train Derails, Homes Evacuated In Lower Bucks Co.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A freight train derailed on Tuesday afternoon as authorities issued a shelter-in-place and evacuated homes near the Neshaminy Falls Train Station for a possible Hazmat situation.

Bensalem Police, Fire, EMS, and Hazmat Teams are currently en route to the train derailment between Street Road and Neshaminy Falls Train Station.

The Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department reported the derailment at the intersection of East Bristol Road and Grove Avenue.

Fire officials said the derailment involves a CSX freight train. At this time, there is a report of 5-10 derailed freight cars, police said.

"We are currently assessing the contents of the train cars and will send an update as soon as we have more information," police said.

A one-mile shelter-in-place order is currently in effect.

Anyone within that area should remain indoors, bring pets and other animals inside, close windows, doors, and vents, and turn off heating and air conditioning systems until further notice.

Residents in the area are urged to stay away and shelter in place until we have an update.

Regional rail services are suspended on the West Trenton Line near the incident.

State Rep. Kathleen Tomlinson said she was told by authorities that there were no injuries and no fire and limited evacuation.

The Lower Southampton Township Police Department said that Bristol Road is closed between Brownsville Road and Old Lincoln Highway.

Police said some homes are being evacuated and that residents should cooperate with police and fire personnel.
