Cranberry Fire Company To Mark 9/11 With Memorial Ceremony

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PA — The Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company will pause 0n Sept. 11 to commemorate, reflect and honor those lost during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

A large American flag will be hung from a ladder truck beginning at sunrise on Friday and will remain until sundown, at the Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company, 20727 Route 19.

“Taps” will be played in front of the company’s 9/11 Memorial outside of the fire station at the following times:

• 8:46 a.m., American Flight 11 hits the North Tower of the World Trade Center
• 9:03 a.m., United Flight 175 crashes into the South Tower
• 9:40 a.m., American Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon
• 9:59 a.m., World Trade Center’s South Tower collapses
• 10:03 a.m., Hijacked flight United Flight 93 crashes into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania
• 10:28 a.m., World Trade Center’s North Tower collapses

The fire company has a permanent 9/11 memorial on display at the fire station. Formally dedicated on September 11, 2012, the memorial is open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for people to view, touch a piece of ground zero, and reflect on the events of September 11, 2001.

Each year, the members of the fire company gather to salute and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11 and the memorial serves as a constant reminder to never forget.
