Bucks County Classic Races Through The Heart Of Doylestown On Sunday

DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Bucks County Classic bike race, one of the biggest events in Bucks County and best races in the country, returns to Doylestown for the 22nd year on Sunday.

“It is an honor to be able to continue to host the race in the Borough of Doylestown.” says Race Director Laura Reppert. “This is a truly unique event. The Bucks County Classic is the only major race in the country that takes place in a town and not a city. The atmosphere, course, and community support have made this race a destination for racers each year and a sort of homecoming as many have forged long standing friendships with community members.”

All events for the day take place on a 1.4 mile closed circuit course that passes through business and residential areas providing numerous vantage points to view the action up close. Each event starts and finishes at the monument at Court and Main Street with sponsor and team tents lining the finish line stretch.

An expo area on Court Street between Pine and Broad will feature food trucks, local businesses, and bike industry partners. Inside the course from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. is the Doylestown Arts Festival with 100+ artists and live entertainment stages.

Racing starts at 9 a.m. with amateur categories for those with USA Cycling race licenses. Before the professional racers from across the country and around the world vie to be the next Bucks County Classic champion, community members with a bike and helmet are invited to try the course for free during the Ride the Course. Between the Penn Medicine Doylestown Health Pro Women's Race and Thompson Pro Men’s Race kids age 3-12 can sprint to the finish just like the pros thanks to Jarrett Vaughan Builders.

Best Places To Experience The Race

The 1.4 mile course with 8 turns in the heart of the Borough of Doylestown offers numerous vantage points to get up close to the race action. Attending and spectating is completely free. Standing course side you can see National Champions, Olympians, and hometown heroes.

At the start/finish line in front of 14 E Court Street announcers give a play by play of each race and all awards ceremonies take place.

If you have time, Reppert suggests walking a lap of the course. The technicality ensures no two spots are the same. Here are some of our favorite spots:

• Turn 2 at Pine and Oakland is a popular spot for those who love thrills and speed.
• At Turn 3, Main and Oakland, the race course meets the Doylestown Arts Festival. Between laps check out the artists displays and demos.
• House parties line Oakland between Lafayette and Clinton. These residents not only cheer the racers on, they host many of them every year in their homes.
• Interested in the mechanical side of racing? Stop by the pit at Turn 7, Oakland and Clinton. USA Cycling certified mechanics and officials access mechanical issues, fix them with record speed and get racers back in the action.
• Turn 8 to the finish. On every lap riders climb Court Street up to the line.

Food, expo, vendors and artists

On Court between Pine and Broad there will be food, vendors and an opportunity to meet some of the teams at their team tent.

On Main Street between Court and State the Bucks County Classic and Doylestown Arts Festival meet. Race sponsors and local organizations line the stretch sharing information about their role in the community.

Inside of the course are local shops and restaurants as well as the Doylestown Arts Festival with 150+ artists and 5 entertainment stages.

The Bucks County Classic is organized by MSH Productions LLC, a woman-owned event production company. The race would not be possible without the support of the Borough of Doylestown and local businesses.
