Chapman Road Bridge Reopens In Doylestown Township

DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Chapman Road Bridge, which has been closed since late October, reopened to traffic on Wednesday in Doylestown Township following a multi-million-dollar construction project.

The township-owned bridge, which spans Pine Run, closed on Oct. 27 under a project funded by PennDOT and with Doylestown Township paying for the design and engineering of the project.

During construction, the aging wooden truss and steel-supported bridge built in the 1980s as part of the Doylestown Ridge development was replaced with a modern single-span bridge.

The township-owned bridge serves as a key connector in the township, linking the Pine Mill Estates and Doylestown Ridge neighborhoods on the Ferry Road side of the township to nearby Doylestown Borough, Doylestown Health, Central Bucks West High School and local shopping districts.

PennDOT flagged the span in August 2024 after an inspection found continued deterioration of the center beam. The highway agency ordered the township to close the bridge. Several weeks later, the bridge was allowed to reopen with weight restrictions.
