New Signs In Buckingham Alert Drivers To Amphibian Crossing

BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — Forget the chickens. In Buckingham, the question is: "Why did the reptile cross the road?"

New solar-powered signs have been installed along Upper Mountain Road near the Buckingham Mountain Preserve, cautioning drivers to watch out for amphibians crossing the road.

The new signage is programmed to flash on select evenings during the spring and fall amphibian migration seasons, when frogs, salamanders, and other wildlife are most likely to be crossing the roadway.

"During these rainy spring and fall migration nights, staff and volunteers (with Heritage Conservancy) may also be along the roadway helping amphibians cross safely," township officials say.

The new wildlife crossing signs were installed in partnership with Heritage Conservancy and with the financial support of the Robert F. Schumann Foundation.

"Drivers are asked to slow down, stay alert, and watch for both wildlife and volunteers whenever the signs are flashing," township officials said.
