Dedication Ceremony for the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Harrisburg.
Event Details
MITER Foundation, the charitable arm of MITER Brands, a family of leading window and door brands, will be sponsoring the upcoming dedication ceremony for the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Harrisburg.
An initiative founded by the late Medal of Honor recipient Hershel “Woody” Williams, the monument honors the families of servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives in service of the military.
The Woody Williams Foundation’s original goal was to establish a Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Williams’ home state of West Virginia. Once that monument was complete, a new mission became clear to establish these monuments in as many communities as possible in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
To date, there are 154 monuments installed in 50 states and one U.S. territory, with 48 monuments in progress. The new Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Harrisburg will mark the fourth monument in Pennsylvania.
To commemorate the occasion, a dedication ceremony will take place that includes remarks from:
- Timothy M. Schumacher, US Army (Ret) and President/CEO of the Woody Williams Foundation
- Cherriney Kondor, President of the Central PA Chapter of American Gold Star Mothers, Inc.
- Representative Joe Kerwin, 125th Legislative District
- Senator Patty Kim, 15th Senatorial District
- Senator Greg Rothman, 34th Senatorial District
- Treasurer Stacey Garrity, Pennsylvania State Treasurer
- Brigadier General Reece Lutz, 28th Infantry Division Commanding General
- Hon. Mike Pries, Dauphin County Commissioner (proclamation)
- Hon. Reggie McNeil, Department of General Services Secretary
- James McMahon, MITER Brands Chief Pilot
Additional event activities include the presentation of colors, the national anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance, a prayer, taps, and inviting Gold Star families to say their soldier’s name in remembrance.
The event is open to the public.
