Driver Killed In Havertown Crash Had License Revoked For Medical Reasons: Reports

Investigators believe the driver had a medical episode before the deadly crash involving over a dozen vehicles, according to news outlets.

HAVERTOWN, PA — The driver who died in a large-scale crash after a possible medical episode Saturday in Havertown had his license revoked for medical reasons, according to reports.

John Ryan, 57, of Havertown, died in the crash that involved more than a dozen vehicles and injured eight others at around 12:15 p.m. Saturday on West Chester Pike, according to 6abc Action News and CBS News.

The crash began at Darby Road and ended about 1.5 miles away at Eagle Road. Ryan was speeding and driving erratically when he sideswiped several cars before flipping onto its side and crashing into a U-Haul truck.

Investigators believe Ryan may have suffered a medical emergency before the deadly crash.

Ryan's license was previously revoked for medical reasons, Police Chief John Viola told news outlets.

Eight people were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
