West Moreland Avenue Bridge Demolition To Begin
Hatboro officials said detours will be in place shortly for the upcoming bridge replacement.
HATBORO, PA — Demolition of the West Moreland Avenue Bridge is expected in the next few weeks as PennDOT puts detours in place for the bridge replacement project.
The bridge over the Pennypack Creek is located on West Moreland Avenue, between Flamingo Road (Upper Moreland) and Broad Street (Hatboro), adjacent to the Hatboro Memorial Swimming Pool.
The contractor, H&K Group, is expected to post the PennDOT-approved detour for the project on Jan. 12, with demolition expected to begin shortly thereafter.

Once demolition begins, the bridge will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians until the completion of the project, which is expected to be completed in December 2027.
While West Moreland Avenue is a Hatboro road, the bridge near the pool is owned by Montgomery County.

Hatboro officials said there will be some work in Eaton Park as the contractor needs to have storage and office space for the job.
"If we were to allow them to use the pool parking lot, it would significantly reduce parking and affect pool operations for the 2026 season," officials said. "Pool season is impacted already with the road closure; we did not want to make it worse by a significant reduction in parking at an already packed parking lot."
Officials said because of borough and state regulations, the contractor needs to do some grading and install a silt fence before placing the storage and office space.
A temporary walkway is being installed so visitors to the park can access without interfering with job operations.
