Local martial arts community kicks for charity — 500 kicks, 18 years, & more than 205K raised

For 18 years, local martial arts students have been proving that doing good can be as simple as putting one foot in front of the other—500 times.
Since 2008, Villari’s Self Defense Centers across Pennsylvania have hosted an annual Kick-a-Thon, bringing students, families, local businesses, and community members together to raise money for local charities. Over the years, the event has raised more than $205,000, including a record-breaking $21,000 in 2025.
This year’s Kick-a-Thon takes place Saturday, September 26, from 12–4 p.m., and organizers are inviting the community to come out and see what happens when hundreds of people come together around one simple mission:
“Do good for the sake of doing good.”
During the three-hour event, students will collect pledges and take on the challenge of completing 500 kicks—all while surrounded by music, family-friendly activities, martial arts experiences, face painting, karate demonstrations, prizes, raffles, and local vendors.
The event is about much more than martial arts. It is an opportunity for young people to experience firsthand what it means to set a goal, work for something bigger than themselves, and make a tangible difference in their community.
Local businesses also play an important role, donating raffle items and supporting an event that directly benefits charitable organizations in the area.
The afternoon will conclude with a check presentation to representatives from each participating charity, followed by a group photo celebrating the students, families, businesses, and community members who helped make the fundraiser possible.
After nearly two decades, the Kick-a-Thon has become a tradition built around a simple idea: you don't need a special reason to help someone—you can simply choose to do good.
