Massive Fire Brought Under Control At Old County Line Nursery

The nursery had been in business for 73 years before closing in 2025.

FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, PA — A massive fire ripped through the property of the abandoned County Line Nursery in Montgomery County over the weekend, causing significant damage.

No injuries have been reported.

The incident began at around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 at County Line Nursery, on the 800 block of Harleysville Pike in Franconia Township.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known and remains under investigation.

The fire began in a barn and rapidly spread through parts of the property, consuming old equipment.

After firefighters brought the main blaze under control, numerous structure fires and spot fires persisted into the morning.

The property has lain dormant since its closure last year. It had been in business for 73 years, since 1952.

Owners expressed deep gratitude to impressive work by first responders to limit the damage.

"We at The Old Dutch Cupboard and the Alderfer Poultry Farm Family want to express our deepest gratitude for our local fire companies," they shared. "We are grateful for their prompt response and heroic efforts during our barn fire yesterday, at the former County Line Nursery. Your bravery and professionalism in combating the blaze, not only allowed the fire to be contained but also provides a sense of security to our community. Words cannot adequately express how thankful we are for your service."

Numerous stations assisted at the scene, including Harleysville, Souderton, Telford, Towamencin, Hatfield, Worcester, Skippack, Perkiomen Township, Upper Salford, Tylersport, Pennsburg and Upper Gwynedd, along with VMSC and Franconia Township Police.
