Montco Firefighter Set 3 Fires In 2 Days: Authorities

Numerous arson charges have been filed against the local man, who joined firefighters in responding to two of the scenes.

SOUDERTON, PA — A Souderton firefighter set at least three fires in the span of two days this week, joining first responders at the scene of two of those incidents, according to state police. and a media report.

Justin Tyler Sholly, 29, a Souderton resident and Perseverance Volunteer Fire Company volunteer, has been charged with two counts of arson and dozens of related counts.

The first blaze was set in the early morning hours of May 29 near the intersection of Forman Road and Schoolhouse Road in Franconia Township. According to NBC Philadelphia, wood logs had been lit.

Hours later, just after 4 a.m., a garage and barn were lit on fire at Wile Avenue and Lumber Street, the report states said. That blaze was just 50 from two occupied homes with numerous residents inside, state police said.

The third incident occurred at the old County Line Nursery on May 30, at around 4:30 a.m. The massive fire ripped through the property, starting in a barn and causing significant damage to other structures around the area. State police said that eight people were in a nearby home.

Authorities traced the blazes to Sholly by tracking the license plate of a vehicle that was spotted at the scene of all three incidents, NBC reports.

Sholly was taken into custody on May 31 and booked at Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post $500,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for June 10.
