Newportville Fire Co. Holding Town Hall Meeting Over Future

BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, PA — With its 100-year history at stake, the Newportville Fire Company will hold a town hall community meeting as township officials mull its closure.

The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Aug 12 at the fire hall.

The Newportville Fire Company No. 1 has served Bristol Township since 1927, but faces closure by the Bristol Township Council, which is expected to vote on an ordinance on the measure at its meeting this month.

"This matter is not about the dedication or sacrifice of individual volunteers," officials said recently. "It is about the township's legal responsibility to ensure reliable, accountable, and effective fire protection for all residents."

Fire company officials will address the community, answer questions, and review the information surrounding its future.

"In the interest of complete transparency, documentation will be available for review, dating back to 2020," fire officials said. "Our goal is simple: to ensure our community has access to the facts and can make informed decisions based on the available information."

The fire company has also invited all local and state elected officials, members of Bristol Township Council, and other public representatives to attend the town hall meeting.

Township officials said that — as outlined in a July 10 legal correspondence — they have spent years working with the fire company to address "significant operational, governance, and compliance concerns."

Officials said they have concluded that those improvements have not happened, and that recent audits and findings have confirmed the issues remain unresolved.
