'Big Boy' Will Change Crew In Royersford During Its Tuesday Passage

ROYERSFORD, PA — Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014 is passing back through Montgomery County Tuesday again on its way back west, and an unscheduled stop has been confirmed.

The train will stop in Royersford briefly for a crew change, borough officials said.

Main Street will be blocked on 2nd and Main at 10 a.m., and Spring City is blocked off by the bridge.

The train is expected to linger in the area for 10 to 15 minutes.

The world's largest and most powerful steam engine departed King of Prussia's Abrams Yard at 9 a.m. Monday.

It's route Tuesday will retrace its steps from July 2, passing through Valley Forge, Phoenixville, Royersford, and Pottstown, with no other stops scheduled until Lebanon.

The steam engine has numerous stops planned through the end of July across the country, including Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, and ending where it started in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

The 133-foot-long train was built in 1941 to haul freight over the mountains during World War II. Considered a marvel of engineering, it was refurbished in 2019.
