Make It An Active Summer In Limerick Area: 5 Ways To Get Moving
Despite the brutal heat, communities along the Schuylkill River have plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy this summer.

LIMERICK, PA — As a brutal summer continues for much of the Philadelphia region, Limerick and Royersford area residents are uniquely positioned to take advantage of some activities that won't overheat you.
Here's a look at some summer fitness ideas in the local area.
1. Run or bike in the shade of the Schuylkill River Trail

While long stretches of the Schuylkill River Trail are not shaded, there are also long sections that provide relief from the sun. If access points near Limerick are too exposed, consider a trip to the Betzwood Bridge section of the trail adjacent to Valley Forge National Historical Park. Heavy tree coverage keeps riders and runners out of the sun for miles.
2. Kayak

While many stretches of the Schuylkill River offer premier kayaking, an idyllic shaded course is the Lock 60 loop, a four mile circuit that drifts down the Schuylkill and then back up the canal. Easy portage is available in Mont Clare. Kayak Rentals are also available from Port Providence Paddle here.
3. Cool down with a visit to a public or members-only pool
Several pools in the area are open for the summer.
- Spring City Community Pool
- Marsh Creek Pool
- Spring Valley YMCA Pool (for members)

4. Wade and fly fish the Perkiomen Creek
Nothing quite cools you down like rushing water. The Perkiomen Creek is a haven for countless spots of quick moving, shallow, shaded, and cooler water where an abundance of species can be caught. Smallmouth and largemouth bass, brown trout, rainbow trout, carp, and much more call these waters home.
