UPPER CHICHESTER, PA — A boil water advisory has been issued for a wide swath of Delaware County after a major water main break Thursday.
Thousands of customers across Upper Chichester, Lower Chichester, Marcus Hook, and Twin Oaks should not drink their water without boiling it first, the Chester Water Authority said.
The water main break occurred at a construction site along Route 322, near Cherry Tree Road. The cause is not yet known and is under investigation.

No contamination into the water supply has yet been confirmed. Authorities say the boil water advisory is a precautionary measure.
The Chichester School District canceled classes Friday, noting that the boil water requirement "makes it impossible for us to serve breakfast or lunch in a safe or sanitary manner."
