Delco Gives Invites Donors To Support Local Nonprofits

Delco Gives returns May 6-7 with online giving, bonus funds, local events and a closing celebration at WSFS Bank Sportsplex.

Delco Gives will return to Delaware County on May 6-7, bringing together hundreds of nonprofits and donors for an online giving event hosted by The Foundation for Delaware County. The event, now in its third year, is aimed at raising money and awareness for organizations that serve communities across the county.

More than 300 organizations are participating this year, according to the foundation. Last year, more than 11,000 donors raised nearly $2.3 million for local nonprofits. The foundation said participating groups include nonprofits focused on the arts, education, health care, animals, veterans, the environment, seniors and more.

β€œDelco Gives is about more than a single day of giving β€” it’s about what’s possible when a community comes together with purpose,” said Michael Kellerman, President of The Foundation for Delaware County. β€œThis is a moment to go all in for the organizations that care for our neighbors, strengthen our communities, and help shape Delaware County’s future.”

The foundation outlined three main ways to participate: giving, sharing and getting workplaces involved. Donations made during Delco Gives are eligible for bonus funds and prizes, according to the foundation. It also promotes the All In Fund, which pools donations and distributes them across all participating organizations.

The foundation said all proceeds go directly to participating nonprofits. It said bonus funds are awarded based on the number of donors supporting an organization, not the size of the donation. Last year's median donation was $30.

Businesses are also part of the effort through matching gifts, prize sponsorships and team-based giving, according to the foundation. Power Home Remodeling is listed as the presenting sponsor, and the foundation said additional cash prizes sponsored by local businesses will be awarded throughout May 6-7.

The event will include public activities in Media and around the county. A kickoff is planned for Wednesday, May 6, at Dining Under the Stars at Olive and State streets in Media. The foundation said Thursday, May 7, will include community tailgates in several locations, followed by a closing celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. at WSFS Bank Sportsplex.

The closing celebration will include family activities, food trucks, music and the announcement of the final Delco Gives fundraising total around 7:30 p.m. Information on donating, participating nonprofits and volunteer opportunities is available at delcogives.org.
