Media Santa Parade Revived After The Holiday Tradition Was Set To Come To An End

MEDIA, PA — Earlier this year, organizers said the Media Santa Parade would no longer take place due to lack of funds. But after months of community collaboration, the Christmastime tradition is back on.

The Santa Parade, which also features a fun run and block party, has kicked off Media's holiday season for more than a decade.

But the tradition was in peril. In June, the parade's volunteer committee announced the event would no longer happen due to rising costs. However, an outpouring of community support made them reconsider and try to find a way.

On Friday, organizers announced that the parade will return on Nov. 29.

"Thanks to the incredible support of our local small businesses and community members, the Santa Parade Committee is bringing back one of Everybody’s Hometown’s most beloved holiday traditions," said the announcement on the Santa Parade's Facebook page. "We’ve got a magical parade, festive block party, and fun run in the works -- and we’re working hard to make this year’s celebration bigger and brighter than ever!"

The Media Santa Parade Committee continues to seek donations for the celebration. A GoFundMe campaign launched in August has generated about $1,800 toward its $5,000 goal. Sponsorships are also available.

For years, the Santa Parade has been organized by a small team of volunteers and funded through sponsorships and donations.
