Sports run deep in New Hope, and New Hope-Solebury High School has long been at the heart of it. It’s no surprise some standout talent once wore the Lions uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from New Hope-Solebury High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.


Amber Brooks – NWSL Soccer Player

Amber Brooks is a standout soccer alum from New Hope who achieved national success at the collegiate level, winning two NCAA National Championships and earning All-American honors. She went on to a professional career in the National Women’s Soccer League, playing for the Portland Thorns, Houston Dash, OL Reign and Dallas Trinity FC. Brooks has been recognized as one of the most accomplished athletes to come from the program. (Source: Dallas Trinity)


Madie Thistlewaite – Collegiate Lacrosse Player

Madie Thistlewaite was a standout lacrosse player at New Hope-Solebury High School, where she set multiple school records. She continued her athletic career at Bucknell University, earning repeated All-League honors and establishing herself as a consistent contributor at the collegiate level. Tristan Cannon – Defensive & Tight End Football Powerhouse

Tristan Cannon, a standout defensive end and tight end for New Hope-Solebury, earned Defensive Player of the Year honors twice and captained the Lions during his senior season. He continued his playing career at the University of Rochester, where he’s part of the football program while pursuing academic goals in business and engineering. Laura Corrigan – Triple-Sport Standout & Division I Soccer Leader

A 1992 graduate of New Hope-Solebury, Laura Corrigan left her mark in field hockey, basketball and soccer, earning team MVP honors in all three. She passed the 1,000-point mark in basketball and earned a Division I scholarship to play soccer at Stony Brook University. There, Corrigan continued to lead as a team captain and MVP. Jack McKenna – Two-Time All-Bicentennial Athletic League Runner

A two-time All-Bicentennial Athletic League first-team honoree, Jack McKenna made history at New Hope-Solebury by becoming the school’s first-ever 1,000-yard rusher during his junior season in 2015. He helped lead the Lions to a District One Class AA championship with standout performances on both sides of the ball, including a 54-yard touchdown and a critical defensive sack in the title game. McKenna, who also played lacrosse, finished his high school football career with 1,922 rushing yards. Diagnosed with a brain tumor while attending the University of Pittsburgh, McKenna passed away in 2020 at the age of 22. He was posthumously inducted into the New Hope-Solebury Athletic Hall of Fame in 2025. (Source: PhillyBurbs.com)
