NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — If you’re tired of swerving for potholes, or worse yet, hitting one in Newtown Borough, relief is on the way.

Newtown Borough Manager Craig Totaro announced on Wednesday that crews will be out on Friday patching potholes in the borough.

Totaro said due to the harsh winter, a bumper crop of potholes have surfaced throughout town and are now scheduled to be filled on Friday.

“We did have one wave of repairs,” which Totaro said may have been done too early in the season. “Some of that has actually dislodged and we will be doing them again,” he reported.

Totaro said the borough has been keeping a running list of potholes that have been reported by police and residents. “Friday is the day we will be repairing new ones as well as existing ones that have dislodged,” he said.

That comes as a relief to residents like Terry Kiely who attended Wednesday’s council meeting to complain about the unusual number of potholes that have opened up in the borough.

“In the 30-plusthe years that I have lived in the borough I have never seen it this bad,” she t,old council.

“Recently, coming out of the CVS on Lincoln, my car went through a large pothole. Fortunately, I did not have a problem because I was driving slowly but there were no markings to warn drivers to avoid the pothole. Even if there was a safety cone, and many have cropped up in town, the potholes have to be addressed in a timely manner.”

She pointed to a cone at Lincoln and Elm that she said has been there for weeks

In related news, the council on Wednesday voted unanimously to solicit bids for the borough's road repaving program.

Slated for repaving under this year's program are North Congress Street from Washington Avenue to Jefferson Street and Edgeboro Drive from Frost Lane to Jefferson Street.
