Newtown Dance Studio Wins International Recognition

NEWTOWN, PA — Newtown was well represented on the international dance stage last week, when the local Fred Astaire Dance Studio returned from the Fred Astaire World Championship in Las Vegas with a very impressive finish.

The studio’s competitive team took first place in the Top Studio category, competing against 139 studios from around the world. The team also brought home numerous other awards throughout the week-long competition. For a complete list and more photos

In addition to the studio’s overall success, owners Roman Doroshenko and Iryna Savushkina earned individual recognition. Roman was named Top Male Instructor, placing first out of 186 entries, while Iryna achieved an outstanding 4th-place finish among 115 entries in her category.

For Roman and Iryna, the achievement is an exciting milestone for a studio that only opened its doors in Newtown in the spring of 2024. Both bring a strong competitive dance background to the studio, which has been steadily growing its presence in the community.

And while the studio is now getting international attention, it may still be one of Newtown’s best-kept secrets.

The studio offers plenty of opportunities for those who aren't looking to compete. Group classes and social dance events give local residents a chance to learn ballroom and other styles in a relaxed setting, meet new people, and simply enjoy dancing. Private lessons are also available, including wedding dance instruction for couples preparing for their big day.

The recent World Championship win has certainly put the Newtown on the dance studio map, but for Roman and Iryna, the focus remains on building a welcoming local dance community while helping their students discover the fun of dancing.

For a studio that has been open for just over two years, the trip to Las Vegas — and coming home as the top studio — is quite a way to introduce Newtown to the ballroom world.
