Newtown Memorial Day Parade To March Rain Or Shine
"Let us all remember that Memorial Day is not about convenience — it is about commitment," said the American Legion commander.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Newtown Memorial Day Parade will step off on Monday - rain or shine - pausing three times during the march to render honors.
In a letter to the community, American Legion Post 440 Commander Kyle Davis said that although the forecast calls for rain, the Memorial Day Parade will proceed as scheduled.
"It is our solemn duty as Legionnaires and as Americans to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation," Davis wrote. "Rain, wind, or any other weather condition does not diminish that responsibility. We will march, we will remember, and we will render full honors to our fallen heroes."

Davis said the post "fully understands that inclement weather may prevent some parade participants, Post members, and members of the public from attending. Your safety and well-being are important to us," he wrote. "No one should feel obligated to attend if conditions make it difficult or unsafe for them to do so. We ask only that you keep the true meaning of the day in your hearts and prayers, wherever you may be."
Davis added, "Rest assured, the members of American Legion Morell Smith Post 440 will be present to carry out the full program. We will march in the parade, conduct the memorial service, and honor our fallen comrades with the dignity and respect they so richly deserve.
