South State Street Repaving Project On Its Way To Completion In Newtown

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The South State Street repaving project is expected to be completed this week, much to the relief of residents and business owners who have had to deal with traffic disruptions and a bumpy road for the past year.

The repaving, which began on July 17, has been completed from Centre Avenue up to Penn Street with crews scheduled to finish the project from Penn Street south to the bypass this week.

Work will again be taking place during the day with street closures and delays expected through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

A daytime detour will be posted directing traffic to use Sycamore Street and the Newtown Bypass. Motorists can expect daytime delays during work hours.

The work is being done under a permit granted to PECO by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

The repaving project completes a major PECO gas main installation project that has caused traffic disruptions for the past year on South State Street.
