Vehicle Fire, Scam Call, Criminal Mischief: Northampton Twp. Police Report

RICHBORO, PA — The Northampton Township Police Department reported the following incidents between July 13 and 26, including a vehicle fire on Elm Avenue, a criminal mischief case involving damaged vehicles on Bustleton Pike, two juvenile e-bike stops and a retail theft in Richboro.

According to police, the two week period also included the Northampton Township Police Department’s K9 Unit gave a demonstration to the Township Parks and Recreation Summer Camp on July 13.

Police also investigated a suspicious vehicle behind a business on July 14 after patrol observed a car parked there at 11:17 p.m. Contact was made with the individual inside, who reported they had pulled into the parking lot before going home. The individual was checked, everything appeared to be okay, and they left the area.

Police responded July 15 to the 900 block of Almshouse Road for a traffic accident involving a deer. The car was traveling westbound on Almshouse Road when a deer entered the roadway and was struck. A tow was required.

On July 18, patrol responded to the 200 block of Elm Avenue for a vehicle fire. Police reported that the vehicle was traveling on Elm Avenue when it began to smoke. The driver exited the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames. There were no injuries, and the fire was extinguished by the fire department.

Police also reported two e-bike incidents involving juveniles. On July 19, patrol spoke with a juvenile operating an e-bike in the 800 block of Bustleton Pike. The juvenile was identified, and a parent was contacted. On July 20, patrol observed an juvenile operating an e-bike on 2nd Street Pike and initiated a traffic stop. The rider was identified and a parent was contacted to respond and take custody of the e-bike.

A traffic accident causing property damage was reported July 21 at Newtown-Richboro Road and Holland Road. According to police, a large truck traveling westbound on Newtown-Richboro Road struck a traffic signal and wires. The roadway was closed until utility companies were contacted and arrived to repair the damage.

Other incidents included a scam call reported July 22 by a complainant who said a caller claimed to be from the Sheriff’s Office and said there was an active warrant for missing jury duty. The resident recognized it as a scam and hung up.

On July 23, patrol responded to Bustleton Pike for damaged vehicles and determined that one or more vehicles were driving through the area while occupants threw objects at passing vehicles. The case was assigned to detectives for further investigation.

On July 26, patrol responded to a Richboro business for retail theft and cited a suspect for theft related charges after reviewing video footage.

During the tour, patrol also handled 33 alarm calls, 33 abandoned 911 calls, 78 medical emergencies, 17 bookings, 8 domestic disputes, 17 civil disputes, 128 traffic monitoring details and 28 crime prevention details.
