October In Peters: Fall Fun, Festivals & More

Fall is officially here in Peters, and there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of it. From festivals and farmers markets to pumpkin patches, live music and other seasonal fun, October brings plenty of reasons to get out and enjoy what’s happening close to home.

Here are some events and activities happening in and around Peters this October.

Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins Festival

When: Saturday, Oct. 17–Sunday, Oct. 18, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Where: The Stacks at 3 Crossings, 2875 Railroad St., Pittsburgh, PA

See pumpkins weighing more than a ton at the Pittsburgh Monster Pumpkins Festival, a free two-day celebration in Pittsburgh's Strip District. The festival showcases enormous pumpkins alongside giant pumpkin carving, pumpkin drops, carriage rides, a kids' area, glass-blowing demonstrations, food and craft vendors and other activities. Admission and most activities are free, though food concessions and carriage rides cost extra.

Fall Activities At Simmons Farm

When: Daily through Sunday, Nov. 1; Mondays–Thursdays, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.; Fridays–Sundays, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Simmons Farm, 170 Simmons Road, McMurray, PA

Enjoy a full slate of seasonal activities close to home at Simmons Farm, where the fall fun continues daily through Nov. 1. Admission options include a scenic hayride or walk to the activity field, where visitors can explore corn and hay mazes, a petting zoo, slides, pedal cars, games and a 5-acre pumpkin patch, with apple and flower picking also available separately. Wristbands are required for the fall activity area, with admission starting at $19 and an option that includes a pumpkin from the field available for $24; some activities and concessions cost extra.

Main Street Farmers Market

When: Thursdays through Oct. 29, 3–6 p.m.
Where: Main Street Farmers Market, 139 S. Main St., Washington, PA

About a half-hour from Peters Township, Washington’s Main Street Farmers Market continues its 2026 season every Thursday through Oct. 29. Shoppers can find fresh local produce, meat, eggs and other locally made goods, with scheduled live music and community organizations also appearing at the market throughout the season. The market accepts SNAP benefits, and participating vendors also accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers.

Kennywood Phantom Fall Fest

When: Select dates through Sunday, Nov. 1; Fridays, 6–11 p.m.; Saturdays, noon–11 p.m.; Sundays, noon–10 p.m.
Where: Kennywood, 4800 Kennywood Blvd., West Mifflin, PA

A Pittsburgh-area favorite for over 125 years, Kennywood's Phantom Fall Fest combines family-friendly fall fun during the day with scarier Halloween experiences after dark. The park offers more than 30 rides and attractions, seasonal entertainment and food, plus seven haunted attractions and four scare zones; Saturdays and Sundays also feature daytime trick-or-treating through Nov. 1. Tickets are required, and guests ages 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older to enter during Phantom Fall Fest.

Jack O'Lantern Extravaganza

When: Daily, Friday, Oct. 2–Sunday, Nov. 1, 6:30–11 p.m. Oct. 2–9 and 6–11 p.m. beginning Oct. 10
Where: Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium, 7370 Baker St., Pittsburgh, PA

Thousands of hand-carved pumpkins light up the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium during the Jack O'Lantern Extravaganza, a seasonal nighttime walk-through experience. More than 3,500 jack-o'-lanterns create themed displays inspired by zoo animals, famous Pittsburghers, cryptids, movies and music, culminating in a 650-foot synchronized light-and-sound display called the Living Wall. Timed tickets are required, with adult admission starting at $24 and tickets for children ages 2–13 starting at $18; children under 2 are free.
