Join us for a full-day forum on the life and legacy of the late LGBTQ+ activist and Philadelphia leader William “Bill” Way. Hear from those who knew Bill, those who have studied his legacy, and those whose careers or interests mirror some of Bill’s own pursuits. There will also be time for attendees to view the ten scrapbooks that document his life from childhood up to his death in 1988, which are now part of our John J. Wilcox, Jr. Archives. Lunch will be served.

Mister John's Music - The School

Mister John's Music hosts an all-ages open mic night monthly where kids and adults alike can show their stuff!
Our open mic nights are held at our 761 S 8th Street location.
Single song performance slots are given in the order of arrival and we hand out chord sheets for 2-3 all-skate songs to involve everyone.
There is a house band to accompany you if you wish, just bring leadsheets or chord sheets for them to use.
This event is BYOB, but please consider purchasing your beverages/snacks from their DiBruno Bros. Bottle Shop – they are wonderful neighbors!
Finally, these events are free, however we request a pay-what-you-can Venmo donation to cover the cost of the house band.

Learn the techniques and tools of figure sculpture through demonstration and hands-on sculpting from the model. Explore anatomy, proportion, gesture, and design through the versatility of clay. Personal expression will be emphasized through representational and abstract approaches. Open to all levels and perfect for beginners. Tuition includes a $35 models fee.

She Shines is Philadelphia’s premier annual gathering that engages women of color who are disenfranchised and underrepresented in the healthcare, education, business and many walks of life. The daylong event will focus on health, wellness, safety, civic engagement, networking opportunities and more. Celebrate survival, strength, and sisterhood! Part of the event focuses on breast cancer education. The She Shines Conference will be Saturday, November 7, 2026, at New Covenant Church of Philadelphia, 7500 Germantown Ave., in Mt. Airy. The theme is “She Still Matters!" Event participants will enjoy lively interactive, and engaging workshop discussions facilitated by leading national and locally-acclaimed speakers.They include: Sita Lewis (Moma Sita), CEO, curator, maker of Mama Sita's Miracle Butter Cream Skin Care products, and a veteran TV producer and culinary instructor; broadcaster and publisher Rosalyn Daniels, an award-winning CEO &amp; Founder of Black Health Matters, and Medical Field Director Ashley J. Family fun for 3 and up! The Origin of Anansi the Spider is inspired by an African fable from the Ashanti people of Ghana. Anansi had a dream to be the lord of all stories, so he went to the Sky-God Nyame and made his request. Nyame gave him the mission of bringing back a python, a leopard, and a swarm of hornets and promised that if Anansi did this, he would become lord of the stories. Anansi was a great trickster and was able to use his cunning wit to fool the animals into coming back to Nyame with him. Anansi succeeded and was named lord of all stories. This production is another in Curio's Make/Partake series where children will have hands-on experience in participating in the production by making props, creating sound effects and even controlling the weather.
