PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia, the birthplace of the United States, will be an epicenter for July 4 celebrations on the nation's 250th anniversary.
Wawa Welcome America, the nation's largest Independence Day celebration, will take center stage with a day of live music followed by a fireworks display over the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Additionally, Philadelphia will host its final FIFA World Cup 2026 match with a Round of 16 game at Lincoln Financial Field.

But it comes during a dangerous heatwave, which has led to some event cancelations or changes, such as shorter parade routes.

Heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees are expected during each day through July 4, possibly reaching 115 at times. The NWS recommends forgoing outdoor activities and staying inside with air conditioning.
But if you do go out, be sure to drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight or loose-fitting clothing, and try to limit strenuous activities to the early morning or evening.
