Ground Stop Issued At Philadelphia International Airport

PHILADLEPHIA, PA — All departures were halted at Philadelphia International Airport Monday morning after a ground stop was issued due to an equipment failure, the FAA said.

The exact cause of the failure is not yet clear. The issue is also impacting flights at Newark and Teterboro airports in New Jersey, John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia in New York, and Boston Logan in Massachussets.

Significant delays have been reported of more than 3 hours in Philadelphia.

The failures have been connected to Philadelphia's TRACON system, the FAA said, which also controls Newark and other nearby airports.

Some planes had already been on the tarmac for over an hour as of 1 p.m. according to flight statuses, while the FAA says delays are 60 minutes "and increasing" as the issue remains unresolved.

It is not yet known how long the ground stop will continue. The FAA indicates the probability of the issue continuing as "medium" as of just before 1 p.m.
