Speed-Enforcement Cameras Now Line Entire Highway In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA — Nearly a dozen speed-enforcement cameras were activated Monday in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) has been lining Route 13 with cameras that automatically detect and ticket speeding drivers.

On Monday, the PPA announced that cameras installed on the final stretch of the highway have entered a 60-day period of issuing warnings. Ticketing from those cameras will begin Oct. 30.

Months ago, speed cameras were activated on Route 13 (Frankford Avenue) in Northeast Philadelphia. Those cameras have been ticketing drivers since late June.

The new cameras extend from Baltimore Avenue in West Philly to the 3400 block of Ridge Avenue in North Philly's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood. Baltimore and Ridge avenues are part of Route 13.

Here are their precise locations, according to the PPA:

• Baltimore Avenue, 6000 block (eastbound and westbound)
• Baltimore Avenue, 5600 block (eastbound and westbound)
• Baltimore Avenue, 4900 block (eastbound and westbound)
• Baltimore Avenue, 4300 block (eastbound)
• Baltimore Avenue, 4200 block (westbound)
• 300 block of South University Avenue (northbound and southbound)
• 200 block of North 38th Street (northbound and southbound)
• 400 block of North 34th Street (soundbound)
• 3300 block of West Girard Avenue (eastbound and westbound)
• 2000 block of North 33th Street (northbound and southbound
• 3400 block of Ridge Avenue (northbound and southbound)

After the warning period, drivers traveling 11 mph over the posted speed limit will be ticketed: $100 for going 11-19 mph over, $150 for 20-29 mph over, and $150 for exceeding the speed limit by 30 mph or more. No points are assigned to the driver's license.

Automated speed-enforcement cameras have also been placed throughout Broad Street, Roosevelt Boulevard and in four school zones. Philadelphia now has 80 automated speed cameras, the PPA says.

Tickets and warnings are mailed out.
