Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Tara Herman Krise Transportation Ops Manager, Phoenixville.
Patch: Tell us a bit about your business or organization:
Tara Herman: When people think about driving a school bus, they often think it's just a part-time job. For me, it became a career I never imagined and one that has changed my life.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town, or how long has your organization been around in the community?
Tara Herman: I've proudly served the Phoenixville Area School District with Krise Transportation since 2001. During that time, I've had the opportunity to learn nearly every aspect of our operation. I started as a school bus driver and have worked as a monitor, trainer, fueler, fleet manager, assistant manager, and even learned how to change lights and fluids on our vehicles. Today, I'm proud to serve as the Operations Manager for our Phoenixville terminal.
Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Tara Herman: What has kept me here for more than two decades is simple: the people, the purpose, and the flexibility. When I first became a school bus driver, I was taking college classes at night. The schedule fit my life perfectly, giving me the flexibility I needed while allowing me to earn a steady income. Before long, I found myself looking forward to seeing my students every day. As the years passed, I started a family of my own.

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Tara Herman: Give yourself the chance to try it. I never expected a part-time driving job to turn into a career that's lasted more than 25 years. The flexibility, the relationships with students, and the support from our team have made it one of the best decisions I've ever made.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Tara Herman: One of the greatest benefits of driving for Krise Transportation was being able to bring my own children on the bus with me. Thanks to the support of the Phoenixville Area School District, I never had to choose between my career and being there for my kids. I was able to watch them grow while building a rewarding career. It was a gift that few jobs can offer.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Tara Herman: At Krise Transportation, safety is at the heart of everything we do. Safety isn't just about operating a school bus. It's about protecting our employees, caring for our students, and creating an environment where everyone feels supported. Every school day, our drivers safely transport dozens of students while wearing many hats. We become navigators, mentors, role models, problem-solvers, and trusted adults for the children we serve.
Our employees are more than coworkers. They're family. We support one another, communicate openly, and share a commitment to putting Safety First every single day.
