Former Pirates Broadcaster Dies

PITTSBURGH, PA — A former KDKA-TV sports director and play-by-play announcer for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians has died.
John Sanders passed away at the age of 83.
Sanders worked at KDKA in the late 1970s through the 1980s. He was an announcer for the Pirates during the 1980s.

Sanders then went to Cleveland, where he was a play-by-play announcer for the Indians, now the Guardians, from 1991-2006.
A Kansas native, before coming to Pittsburgh Sanders worked at WIBW-TV in Topeka and KMBC-TV. While at KMBC, he did Kansas City Chiefs preseason play-by-play telecasts.
