Health Department Orders Pittsburgh-Area Restaurant Closed

PITTSBURGH, PA — Kirkland's Bussin Kitchen on Broadway Avenue in McKees Rocks is closed after a recent Allegheny County Health Department reinspection revealed numerous health code violations.

Kirkland's had failed to pay a required food permit fee, provide a probe thermometer, failed to have a clean utensil storage area and failed to stock paper towels at its handwashing sinks.

The restaurant also had gaps around its doors, was improperly storing toxic items, had no garbage receptacles and did not properly maintain the outside of the eatery.

To reopen, the restaurant must pay the food permit fee, ensure a food probe is available to monitor food temperatures, clean the food utensil rack and walls, ensure all handwashing sinks have paper towels, make sure a back room is free of rodent droppings, repair the gap around the front door and more.

A "closed" placard is posted at an establishment when an imminent health hazard is identified at a restaurant or kitchen or if it has been operating without proper permits.

It is unlawful to operate a food facility with a "closed" placard.
